Persecute and Prosecute

Persecute, a verb, means to oppress or put to death, usually because of religion, politics, or race.

During the Second World War the Jews were persecuted by Hitler.

Prosecute, a verb, means to bring a lawsuit against someone in a court of law.

The law clearly states that intoxicated drivers will be prosecuted.
