Let's and Lets

Let's is a contraction for let us, so you can use let's whenever you can substitute let us in the sentence and it still makes sense.

My friend said, "Let's go to the matinee on Saturday afternoon."

Lets, a verb, means allows.

The teacher lets us use our textbooks during an examination.
