Consul, Council and Counsel

Consul is a government official.

In his role as consul for the government, he was able to travel extensively.

Council is a group of people, usually elected for a specific purpose, such as a town council or a student council.

The members of the student council were not able to agree on the increase in student fees.

Counsel is advice.

The principal offered counsel to the troubled student.
